IMPORTANT HALLOWEEN REMINDERS FROM THE NAVY...
Please remember that school passes do not grant access the NASKW properties other than for the purpose of traveling to and from the school. It's been rumored that some families are planning to bring their students on base for trick-or-treating. You may NOT use your pass for this purpose. If your child is trick-or-treating with a Sigsbee resident, you must make arrangements with that family for access.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS. BENDALL
Sigsbee Teacher-of-the-Year (Semester 1)
Each year, our Chamber of Commerce recognizes outstanding teachers from each Monroe County school. We are able to submit a teacher for recognition each semester. These teachers are elected by the entire staff as representatives of outstanding performance, professionalism and contribution to our school community. We'd like to congratulate Mrs. Lisa Bendall, our middle school mathematics teacher, for being recognized this semester. Mrs. Bendall is pictured to the left with Congressman Curbelo and City Commissioner Jim School, SCS Board Vice-President. Below is what her colleagues had to say about her.....
Lisa Bendall, a Nationally Board Certified teacher with 20 years of experience, was selected by her colleagues for her professionalism, instructional expertise, and commitment to her field. In the classroom, Mrs. Bendall works tirelessly to personalize each child's learning plan so that the lessons are appropriately challenging.
This means Mrs. Bendall writes several daily lesson plans for each class of students. Mrs. Bendall infects students and teachers with her passion for math by creating field experiences, geocache adventures and outdoor activities. While you won't see her downtown catching Pokemon, she might be guiding students and teachers through a geocache scavenger hunt. Mrs. Bendall also takes on leadership roles across the school. She solves locker emergencies, supervises the student-led business corporation, and chaperones trips to Pigeon Key and Miami. She is a role model in the community, noted as a dedicated swimmer and enthusiastic swimming coach.
Lisa Bendall pursues personal excellence in all aspects of her character and profession. She has been asked to speak at national mathematics conferences and is a national finalist for the Rosenthal Math prize for innovative mathematics teaching. We are proud to her call her a part of our Sigsbee family.

We will be hosting our annual Veterans' Day Appreciation Morning on Thursday, November 10th from 7:45 AM- 9:45 AM. We are looking for veterans who are interested in speaking to children about their experiences. Each veteran will have approximately 20 minutes in two different classrooms. Veterans who are interested in presenting should email Mrs. Jannes at eli.jannes@sigsbee.org.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of our military members.
GRADES 5-8 KEY WEST NUTCRACKER OPPORTUNITY
Sigsbee students have an opportunity to see the iconic Key West Nutcracker on Thursday, December 15th (12:00-3:00 PM). Unfortunately, we only have transportation for grades 1-4. In addition, there are not enough seats in the theater to accommodate all of the students. We've created a survey to see how many students are interested in seeing the production. Once we establish interest, we will begin to organize car pools to the theater. We cannot guarantee that all students will be able to see the performance but we will do the best we can to organize the trip for as many students as possible. Sigsbee has 19 students performing in this production!
Please ONLY answer the survey if your child is in grades 5-8. You do NOT need to respond if your child is in K-4. You will receive the survey via Jupiter this week.
Our annual costume parade will take place on October 31st. The parade starts around the front circle area where we conduct morning carline. The parade will start promptly at 2:15 PM. You are welcome to stop by (and certainly dress up if you like) to join us in some old fashioned fun! Please make sure to stand behind the seated classes (around the perimeter) so we have a safe and clear parade route and bring your cameras! If you wish to take your child home after the parade, please be sure to sign out with the classroom teacher. The parade should be over by 2:45 PM. We thank you in advance for your support in helping your child follow the rules about costumes.
Teachers will send information about specific costume guidelines for each grade level. General guidelines are listed below.
- Costumes are not allowed to have any dangerous objects (i.e. toy swords, toy guns, chains, skates, or spray cans) . Please leave all accessories at home.
- Students should wear school clothes under the costume so they can participate at recess. Students should be able to manipulate their own costumes so that they can use the bathroom.
- Please make sure young children in costume before the parade, are able to sit and learn without distraction.
- Costumes should not be too scary (so that our younger students are not frightened). No blood or gore. No masks or costumes that cover the head.
- Costumes should be appropriate length (not too short, too tight, or see-through).
- Costumes should not include things on the hands or face that would interfere with sight.
- Shoes must be safe (no slippers or high heels)
- Face masks should not be worn.
- Please leave the candy at home.
*Any student with a costume that does not meet the guidelines will be asked to remove it.

SEVENTH GRADE PIGEON KEY TRIP: Just Awesome!
FALLOWEEN DANCE by Madi Zintsmaster
The Middle School Falloween dance was an amazing time, and it was so nice to see all of the students dress up! It was great to see so many smiling faces busting moves on the dance floor. The sixth graders had a fantastic time at their first middle school dance! We hope that the turnout will be just as great for the next Holiday dance!
