SIGSBEE SCOOP
Respect, Responsibility, Resilience
October 17- October 21
WEEK IN REVIEW
It's hard to believe that one quarter of the academic year has already passed.  The end of the quarter signifies a new start for all of us.  Students have the ability to set new goals and work toward higher grades.  At this moment, everyone has a 100% average.  Younger students are over the uncertainty of the new school year and are making leaps and bounds with their reading progress.  Routines are nicely established in the classrooms.  Hopefully, school routines are established at home as well.

Second quarter is interrupted by two extended holiday breaks so we ask that you emphasize attendance, attention and achievement whenever you can.  Start thinking about the books your child will read over break.  Make sure that you stick to some kind of routine so that they don't fall apart when they return.  Ask teachers what students might practice when you are on vacation.  Don't forget, we want them to have fun and spend time with their family too!  Teachers often feel like they have to start over in January because our Winter Recess is so long.  Please try not to extend the breaks even more. We want to instruct your child every day.

October is also a festive month for Key West in general.  If you are new to the area, you might want to reconsider family time on Duval Street.  At least ask what your child will be exposed to if walking downtown in late October.  This short period tends to surprise and sometimes rattle those who are not accustomed to the regular events.

Please note that we ARE in school tomorrow.  The rest of the District has a professional day.  We have reserved that for October 28th for Sigsbee.  Thank you.
