HELPING OTHERS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Last year, SCS started a tradition of helping those in need in our community by preparing Thanksgiving meal baskets for twenty families.  These neighbors all have school-aged children who rely on meals from the school during a regular school week.  Unfortunately, it is a great hardship when school is closed and the meals are not available.  SCS, in concert with Key West High School, focus on providing simple, inexpensive pantry items for these families over long breaks.  Below you will find a sign-up sheet by homeroom (grade level in middle school).  The list includes inexpensive items that can be purchased to help these families.  Please sign up for some of the items and send them to school with your child by Wednesday.  The items will be collected in the classroom so that students can see our donation grow.  This is a simple, inexpensive way of making a meaningful difference for those who are close to us.  Thank you for your generosity.

NJHS Scoop Article: Geometry and Algebra l Honors by Madison Zintsmaster

At Sigsbee, the staff, teachers, and principal want the students to always be a step ahead, so they offer two honors math classes. They include Algebra l, taught by Dr. Dougherty, and Geometry, taught by Mrs. Bendall. In Algebra l, there are 26 eighth and seventh graders in the class. In Geometry, there are 8 eighth graders and 1 seventh grader. High school credit is earned for each course through successful completion of end-of-course tests. It is imperative that the students understand what they are being taught so they start high school off with a deep foundation of mathematical concepts. To make sure that the students do well the classes have group discussions on their homework every day so that they can ask any questions they may have. Sometimes the students will get into groups and discuss amongst themselves about their homework, and then they share their answers to the class and will sometimes create a poster to share. The teachers will take the information gathered in the poster sessions to help students create generalizations. Those generalizations are applicable in coursework throughout the class.
