GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”-Plato
We are excited to be participating in the third annual Global School Play Day along with approximately 70,000 other children from around the world. Our entire school will be dedicating Wednesday as a day of unstructured play for students, teachers and staff. The intent of this day is to re-introduce the benefits of creative, self-directed play with NO ELECTRONICS, no formal teaching and no testing.
This will be a day to fun, free play and creativity. There will be minimal direction from staff, restricted
only to ensuring everyone is safe. Students are encouraged to bring toys, games, building blocks, art materials, trucks, cars, boxes, puzzles and board games as long as they are willing to share. The items should not be something the child values dearly (no trading cards, including Pokemon). The day will also include outdoor play!
Global School Play Day will run ALL DAY in grades K-5. Middle School students will participate for part of the afternoon.
During this day, we ask that you allow our staff to completely engage with students. You can do this by reducing the number of emails sent, cutting down on interruptions to the classroom, and holding off on phone calls. We will only interrupt the play for emergencies.
Please remember that students are never allowed to bring any toys that look like weapons to school no
guns, knives, swords, etc.
We are looking forward to another unforgettable day!
ANCHORED FOR LIFE
Sigsbee is proud to have been selected of one of few schools nation-wide to pilot the Trevor Romain Transition and Resiliency Program (TRTRP): Anchored for Life. The organization partnered with the United State Navy to create a program for children that offers positive support and encouragement in navigating the unique stressors of being a military dependent child.
Eight students in grades 3-6 were selected by the staff to participate in training focused on developing leadership skills and working with other children on coping skills, building confidence, team building and offering support. These team leaders identify transitioning youth and provide them with resiliency training and tools. At Sigsbee, our three Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) work with our team leaders in all classrooms.
Last week, the Commanding Officer of NASKW, Captain Baker, and the Command MasterChief visited the team to award them with certificates of appreciation and NASKW coins (pictured above).
Sigsbee's eighth grade graduating class would like to thank all of the people who purchased tickets to the Sunset Cruise last week. It was a huge success. A special thank you is extended to Sebago for providing the cruise at an extremely reduced rate.
