CELEBRATING THE MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD
April is Month of the Military Child, a time to celebrate our military and veteran-connected children and their families for their service and sacrifice.

Nearly four million children and youth have parents serving in the Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve forces, as well as those of post 9/11 Veterans. Many military and veteran-connected children face the challenges of frequent transition, mobility, and separation throughout their lives. Academic, social, and emotional challenges can arise from reintegration, prolonged separations, ill or wounded parents, and even trauma. The well-being of these children depends heavily on a network of supportive adults.

The experience of being a military child creates a constellation of strengths and challenges, yet they persevere. “I’ve seen most of this massive country and been exposed to a vast array of cultures, walks of life, types of people, and life situations,” shared James, a military-connected youth who views his mobile lifestyle as a strength.

April is a time to celebrate our military and veteran-connected children and show our gratitude for sharing their parent(s) with the country. Look for opportunities to show your appreciation for the military child in your life and continue to support the children of those who serve us all.

A Call for Donations:  The art room would like to make year-round use of the outdoor studio space (behind the classroom).  The kids love being out there, but the afternoon sun is brutal!  Please help us out.  We need patio umbrellas (and the weighted stands if you have them) to put in the tables.  Old umbrellas are fine!  They don't have to be new.  We would love help drilling holes in the tables to put the umbrellas through (I'll provide the drill and a large bit).
Thanks to anyone that can help!
Mrs. Kirk
