COFFEE CLATCH WITH
Dr. Lloyd & Mrs. Jannes
Here's an opportunity to show your children that adults are
learners too. Please join Mrs. Jannes in
welcoming our reading consultant Dr. Susan Lloyd to a conversation with parents.
Wednesday 8:05-9:15 AM
“Connection”
or “Conversation”
Summertime is a break in
routine. A time when schedules are put aside for trips, lazy mornings, and the
school-year pace. With this new pace, there are opportunities for different
experiences with reading and writing that are empowered with more time for
listening and speaking to our children. On May 24th the coffee clatch will focus on building on the growth
students have made during the school year and understanding the value in not
choosing a “connection” over a “conversation.”
SUPERINTENDENT ULTIMATE READER AWARDS (SURA)
Please join us on Thursday (middle school) and/or Friday (K-5) for
the SURA presentation. Your child's
teacher should be able to tell you if your child has earned the certificate for
this program.
About
the SURA Awards: Monroe County School District recognizes independent
reading as a critical component of a student’s development. The purpose of
the SURA program is to
encourage and commend students for reading outside of the school day. Florida
Standards also call for students to Read and comprehend complex literary and
informational texts independently and proficiently. LAFS.K12.R.4.10
The
Superintendent of Schools will present a SURA certificate
to students who complete the criteria outlined in the grade level range at each
school. ELA teachers submit
names to the school SURA designee, Ms. Crandall. This ceremony is intended to celebrate the
students who worked hard to achieve this standard.
ONE CAN, ONE DOLLAR-
LAST FOOD DRIVE OF THE YEAR!
Our families have done an
amazing job supporting the less fortunate youth in our community through food
and clothing drives throughout the year. This week is our final service
effort, focused on providing food and toiletries for
the summer. Please help us help our neighbors! You can do this in
two ways:
1. Send your child in
with an item from the list below. The donations will be brought to KW
High School. Items are due on THURSDAY.
2. Send in a monetary
donation and the staff will purchase the items that are needed and then deliver
them. Just think , if every child donated $1, we would be able to
purchase $500 worth of food. Money is due on WEDNESDAY.
These donations do not count
for volunteer hours but will lead to great appreciation from
youth and their families who struggle everyday. Needed items are:
1. Jars of peanut butter
2. Jars of jelly
3. Canned pastas that can be
heated up (Ravioli)
4. Canned fruits and vegetables
5 Condiments: ketchup,
mustard, mayonnaise
6. Ramon noodles
7. Applesauce
8. Nuts
9. Canned soup
10. Cans of beans
AND/OR
1. Toothpaste
2. Soap
3. Shampoo
