RETURNING STUDENTS
All returning families: Please remember to register your students for the upcoming school year. The link was distributed on July 3rd by Ms. Rosch. Please contact her with any questions (Leslie.rosch@sigsbee.org).
Congratulations on another year as an "A" rated school
This summer, Sigsbee was recognized as an "A" rated school for the sixth consecutive year. The school grade is determined by calculating student progress and achievement on Florida Standards Assessments. You can learn more about the grade by visiting:
Below please find a letter from our State Representative congratulating our staff and students:
Parent score reports will be mailed home for students in grades 5-8. In addition, student numbers will be inserted so that parents can register themselves in Focus.
WHAT'S NEW ON CAMPUS
We're excited to show off the new developments on campus. Some of the improvements (new plumbing and roofs) may not be as exciting to students as others but together, they will add to a greatly enhanced facility.
Every surface has been painted and our middle school has been completely renovated. Ms. Merrell's science lab completed its final round of renovations, finishing up work from last year.
Perhaps most exciting is the addition of our new elementary playground and 12 kayaks and storage for our middle school science program. Students will be hitting the water right in our backyard both during class, and as an option for electives. The new playground replaced the retired structure that was removed last year.
NEW FACES AT SCS
This week, we welcomed a number of new staff members and started our pre-planning training. Joining our newest members are also staff who were hired mid-year last year. We hope you'll look at the grade level websites for more information about each individual.

ENRICHMENT SIGN-UPS
Wednesday enrichment will begin on the first day of school for those students in Kindergarten-fifth grade who are interested. For more information about our program, please see our website.
Class descriptions will be sent out next week so that students may enroll before school starts. Please check next week's blog for information.
FAQs for the first days of school
WHEN IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 16th. School starts at 8:00 AM. Since this is a Wednesday, dismissal is at 12:00 PM for K-5 and 2:00 PM for middle school. Students who are participating in enrichment will begin their first class on that day and be dismissed at 2:00 PM. Please remember that on Thursday, all students will be dismissed at 3:00 PM.
Students should NOT be on campus before 7:45 AM. There is no supervision before that time and teachers are not available earlier than that.
HOW DO I GET A PASS?

Mailing Address: Sigsbee Charter School, 939 Felton Road, Key West, FL 33040
Fax: 305-292-6869
Sending a copy of your license ahead of time will avoid delays in receiving your pass.
WHAT IS MEET THE TEACHER?
Our school year kicks off with an informal opportunity for students and parents to meet your children's teachers while checking out the classroom. This is a stop-in/drop-by event where staff is available to say hello and answer questions. You'll receive important information about schedules, drop off and pick up policies, base passes and more. The PTO will also be onsite to welcome you. Students and parents should attend the event together. Please do not bring any animals with you as they are not permitted on campus. Parents will receive an email with their child's/children's teachers listed on Sunday, August 13th. Meet the Teacher will occur between 8:30 AM -10:00 AM on Monday, August 14th. Teachers are not available after that as they are engaged in professional development.
WHAT SCHOOL SUPPLIES DO I NEED?
Most initial school supplies are provided by the school so that families do not need to worry about finding specific items or incurring a large expense. There are a few things we ask students to invest in, usually limited to a backpack or book bag (no wheels please), a refillable water bottle, a reusable lunch box, a pair of water shoes and headphones/ear buds. Parents can find specific lists of requirements on the grade level website in addition to a list of wanted items for donations. Middle school students will also need a combination lock. Please make sure that all items are labeled with your child's first and last name. Should you have a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Jannes for assistance with supplies (Eli.jannes@sigsbee.org)
Supply lists are created for the grade level, not the teacher, so parents may start shopping before the student's teacher is identified.
WHAT ABOUT LUNCH?
We do not serve on Wednesdays so students staying for enrichment and middle schoolers should bring a lunch on the first day. There is an option to purchase lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for $3.00/lunch. This can be done via our PayPal site on our website or by sending money in with your child.
If you opt to send lunch with your child, please remember that it will not be refrigerated. We strongly encourage you to pack a healthy lunch and water as a drink. All lunches should be sent in with the children at arrival. Classroom instruction will not be interrupted for lunch delivery.
Students may not share lunches or snacks in school. Snack policies are posted on each grade level's website.

WHAT IF IT IS RAINING AT DISMISSAL?
It is common to experience short bursts of rain during the first few weeks of August and it seems like it is always about to rain at dismissal. We will make every attempt to have regular dismissal and will wait until the last moment to decide how to dismiss the children so that we can expedite the process for parents. However, if there is thunder and lightening or if it is raining hard, we will move to rainy day dismissal. This means ALL students will dismiss from the front circle and be escorted to cars.
As you might imagine, rainy day dismissals delay the process. Please be patient as we are trying to keep all of the students safe. If you don't want to wait on carline, and would rather gather your child, please park in the parking lot and come to your child. You must let the teacher know you are taking your child before leaving campus. Please DO NOT park on the front circle and leave your vehicle unattended.
If someone else is picking up your child, please make sure he/she is on your pick up list or your child will not be released.
If your child normally walks or rides a bike home or to Youth, please be sure he/she is aware of your plan for a rainy day. Walkers will not be released in heavy rain or lightening. MWR does NOT transport Youth (ages 10 or older) but does transport students enrolled in their after care program. Students will be permitted to use their cell phones during rainy dismissal to see how they are getting home.
During rainy day dismissal, ALL staff is involved in helping students. The office will not relay messages after 2:40 PM. Teachers are also engaged with students and cannot read emails late in the day. Please do not change plans or rely on a message in these situations.
PLEASE BE SURE YOU'VE READ ALL OF OUR POLICIES ON OUR WEBSITE SO THAT YOU ARE INFORMED ABOUT IMPORTANT PROCEDURES.
