SAFETY AND SECURITY AT SCS
Wednesday, April 11th (Time TBD)
Please fill out a short survey to help us plan for our meeting- the link is listed below
Undoubtedly, some of you are thinking about safety and security procedures at school.  Please be  assured that safety is our first priority and we have measures in place to ensure your children are supervised and protected.  Recent tragedies in South Florida have led us to revisit our policies and work together with local law enforcement and military personnel to update our procedures and collaborate on protocols.   Last week, I met with NASKW security personnel, the NASKW fire department, members of the Key West Police Department, members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and members of the SCS Board of Directors.  We were joined by Chief Of Police, Donnie Lee.  We were able to work together to establish expectations should there be any sort of emergency at Sigsbee and we identified measures that each agency could take to protect our most valuable asset- our children.

Over spring break, we are took care of some facility upgrades to ensure that our classrooms are more protected.  Officers from the KWPD toured the facility to make sure they were all familiar with the site.  In the next weeks, our staff will participate in several safety trainings led by local law enforcement agencies and our Board of Directors will consider longer range plans to create upgrades to our facility and drills.

We ask that you join us as partners by taking the following precautions with your children:
  • SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING: We continue to ask that you inform the school if you come across any concerning information.  Start by monitoring your child's social media account.  It's amazing what you can learn there.
  • FOLLOW SCHOOL SAFETY PROTOCOLS:  Help the students feel safe by checking in at the office whenever you are on campus.  If you see an adult without a sticker or badge, stop the individual and ask if they belong on site.
  • LET THE SPECIALISTS DO THEIR JOB:  If there were ever an emergency on site, we would need you to stay clear of the campus and the gate so that first responders could access the scene quickly.  The base would be closed to all individuals without exception.  Attempting to access the area would distract essential personnel and put you in danger of being misidentified.
  • COME TO OUR PARENT MEETING ABOUT SAFETY AND SECURITY: Come to our Coffee Clatch about Safety and Security so that you are informed about the school's policies and procedures.  It will be a great time to ask questions.  Please answer this short survey so we can confirm the time of the meeting: https://goo.gl/forms/vqbdDmOYK8OepeNE2

WITHDRAWAL FORM
Unfortunately, fourth quarter usually indicates that families are learning about impending moves to other places.  We never enjoy losing our students though we know new experiences are an important part of growing up.  Please help us plan for next year by letting us know if you will not be returning to Sigsbee.  Your early notification allows us to appropriately plan for class size and staffing.  You may contact Mrs. Rosch, are registrar, with any questions (Leslie.Rosch@sigsbee.org).
