National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention month and the 20th is Unity Day. This event was first created by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center back in 2010. The call to action is "Make it Orange and Make it End. Unite Against Bullying!

On Wednesday, October 20th Sigsbee students and staff are encouraged to wear orange to show their support for bullying prevention.   Each student will receive a bookmark on which they will pledge to take a stand against bullying by speaking up, reaching out, and being a friend.  Our middle schoolers will take the same pledge online.

Getting Ready for the Papio-Kinetic Parade: Donations Needed

Please send in clean (rinsed) plastic lids, containers and bottles to help us create art projects that will allow us to experiment with plastics before our entry for the Papio-Kinetic parade.  In high demand are COLORFUL donations.  Deliver your donations to Mrs. Franke in the art room but please make sure they are WASHED before your donate.

THANK YOU UNITED WAY & PUBLIX

SCS received $1880 in Publix Gift Cards and $885 in Amazon Gift Cards to be used on school supplies this year.  The donation came from the local Stuff the Bus Campaign.  These funds are typically used to purchase many of the resources that are regularly needed for science experiments and special projects.  Last year, we were also able to use the Amazon gift cards to purchase umbrellas for shade on our campus.  Thank you to everyone who donated to this campaign!

COFFEE WITH A COP DAY

was a great success
This week, our students showered Officer Nick with handmade cards and K Cups to celebrate his birthday, which happened to fall on National Coffee with a Cop Day.  The highlight of the day was when Officer Nick was called to G Wing to find all the students lined up in the hallway with birthday cards and offering applause.    Our Sailfish did a great job showing their appreciation for an important member of our crew.

HELPING HANDS ACROSS SIGSBEE
Talk to your children about Tik Tok Challenges

Please read the following message from the Florida Commissioner of Education,  Commissioner Corcoran:
“Florida is committed to the safety of its schools, including the safety of students, school and district staff and administrators. Unfortunately, some students are engaging in online “challenges” posted on Tik Tok sites, which encourage students to take part in vandalism, theft, harassment, battery and other totally inappropriate criminal activities. These students’ actions show no respect for their schools, their fellow students and the hardworking teachers who are striving every day to make sure they get a quality education.

I encourage parents to talk frankly with their children and explain the serious consequences of these actions. I also ask students and parents to remain vigilant and report any suspected activities in response to these “challenges” to the school’s leadership. Students who are found to be participating or have participated in any of these harmful “Tik Tok Challenges” risk severe punishment according to the school’s Code of Student Contact or arrest and prosecution by law enforcement.

My sincere hope is that students will realize these harmful actions are vicious and destructive, and will choose to not participate in any “Tik Tok Challenges.” I am confident students will make the right choice and focus on taking advantage of the many learning opportunities available for them in Florida’s nationally recognized education system.”
