Because of our transient student body and community, teachers at Sigsbee do not typically get to celebrate their students' elementary careers like most schools. Many students move away within three years of arriving at Sigsbee. This leaves teachers thinking about former students and wondering how they are doing, where they have landed and what paths they have taken.
This week, it was our distinct pleasure to host the retirement ceremony of a former Sigsbee kindergarten student, Commander Greg Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a student of Sigsbee elementary school while his father was stationed at NASKW. Years later, he returned with his own family to assume the role of Executive Officer at NASKW. In the last four years, Mr. Wilson has been an active member of the community and a valuable asset to Sigsbee Charter School. He serves on our Board of Directors as the board secretary. We were flattered that Commander Wilson wanted to end his military service where he ended his kindergarten year. It was a real treat to see our cafe-gyma-torium used for such an important event.
In a few months, Mr. Wilson's daughter will be graduating from Sigsbee Middle School, on the same stage shared by her father. We look forward to adding to their memories and to Mr. Wilson's continued participation on our Board.
