GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY
Wednesday, February 6th
“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”
-Plato
We are excited to be participating in the fourth annual Global School Play Day along with
approximately 385,000 other children from around the world. Our entire school will be dedicating Wednesday, February 6th as a day of unstructured play for students, teachers and staff.
The intent of this day is to re-introduce the benefits of creative, self-directed play with NO
ELECTRONICS, no formal teaching and no testing. This will be a day of fun, free play and creativity.
There will be minimal direction from staff, restricted only to ensuring everyone is safe.
Students are encouraged to bring toys, games, building blocks, art materials, trucks, cars, boxes,
puzzles and board games as long as they are willing to share. The items should not be
something the child values dearly (no trading cards, including Pokemon). The day will also include
outdoor play!
outdoor play!
Global School Play Day will run ALL DAY in grades K-5. Middle School students will participate for
segments of the afternoon.
During this day, we ask that you allow our staff to completely engage with students.
segments of the afternoon.
During this day, we ask that you allow our staff to completely engage with students.
You can do this by reducing the number of emails sent, cutting down on interruptions to the
classroom, and holding off on phone calls. We will only interrupt the play for emergencies.
Please remember that students are never allowed to bring any toys that look like weapons to school-
no guns, knives, swords, etc.
We are looking forward to an unforgettable day!

PREVENTING THE FLU
We are continuing to see an increase in flu activity here in the Florida Keys. Please help us spread the word!
FDOH-Monroe is hosting a walk in immunization clinic next Tuesday and Wednesday, February 5th and 6th 9:00 AM-4:00PM at the GATO Clinic-1100 Simonton Street. Immunization nurses will be available to administer the FLU vaccine (6 months and over) TdAP (targeting pregnant women in their 3rd trimester) and HPV.
CLINIC NEWS: We are also looking for donations of gently used shorts/t-shirts and underwear for boys and girls. The donations will be loaned to students who need a change of clothes- all youth sizes welcome.
SEVENTH GRADE EXAMPLES OF KINDNESS
Make others feel special- give extra attention to those who are struggling, be receptive to others, give positive comments, and positively highlight somebody for what they do (Jason, Addie, Jacob, Jondel, Eddie, Olivia, Will).
Don’t hear, listen and comprehend. Understand and then ensure you are understood (Ms. F/Ryan/Smith).
Start conversations (Ryan).
Show appreciation to others for what they do- say thanks and write a note (Sarvar/Will).
