WEDNESDAY , OCTOBER 27th
PURPLE PINKIE DAY

SIGSBEE'S GOAL: $550 ($1.00 from each child)

In 1985, Rotary International began an effort to eliminate Polio worldwide.  Polio has not been a problem in the United States for many years, but this is not the case in many developing countries.  By partnering with the World Health Organization, Rotary International has achieved 99% reduction of Polio worldwide.  The Rotary Clubs in Key West have been participating in this effort from the beginning.

With the Purple Pinkie Project, we wish to make our school students part of the solution. On October 27th, our S.A.V.E. Promise Club will paint your child’s pinkie for The Rotary Clubs in Key West.

It takes $1.00 to immunize five children from polio.  Students are encouraged to bring $1.00 or more to help eliminate Polio worldwide and raise awareness throughout our community. Please send the cash to your child's homeroom teacher in an envelope with your child's name. The teacher will hold the $ until the event and allow your child to donate it directly.

When a student puts $1.00 in the Purple Pinkie Bucket, the school will paint his/her pinkie with Gentian Violet as a symbol of one child immunized from Polio.

Gentian Violet is a topical dye used by Rotary International to mark children after they have been immunized from Polio.  This prevents double dosage.  It is safe.  It has been confirmed safe by our Health Department.

Gentian Violet is brilliantly purple and will leave your child’s finger colored for a day or two.

Please fill out THIS FORM if you DO NOT want your child to have their finger painted. You may still donate.

K-5 COSTUME PARADE on FRIDAY
We are excited to host our annual Costume Parade on Friday at 2:00 PM.  Due to current restrictions, the parade will be for students only.  Families may view the parade on our Facebook live @SigsbeeCharterSchoolPTO

Please be sure to follow costume guidelines for your child to participate appropriately:
  • Costumes are not allowed to have any dangerous objects (i.e. toy swords, toy guns, chains, skates, or spray cans) . Please leave all accessories at home.

  • Students should be able to manipulate their own costumes so that they can use the restroom independently.

  • Young children should be in costume when they arrive at school and must be able to sit and learn without distraction.

  • Costumes should not be frightening. No blood or gore. No masks or costumes that cover above the nose area.

  • Costumes should be opaque.

  • Shoes must be safe (no slippers or high heels)

  • Face masks, hoods or anything that covers the entire face cannot be worn.

  • If a child does not meet the guidelines, he/she will be asked to remove the costume.
