CONSTITUTION DAY

"We hold these truths to be self-evident...."

Friday was Constitution Day with all Sigsbee Sailfish spending time learning about the supreme law of our nation. Age-appropriate lessons were found across the school. Kindergarteners talked about being a citizen of a country. They made some awesome American flags and patriotic hats. Many classes read the book, We The Kids, by David Catrow, and created their own books or interpretations of the Preamble of the Constitution . Older classes created a Class Constitution to honor their rights as members of a school community.
Next week, we celebrate Freedom week with additional lessons that include an in-depth study of the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence. To emphasize the importance of this week, at the beginning of each school day or in homeroom, we will conduct an oral recitation by students of the following words of the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE ANOTHER AUTHOR'S VISIT.  THIS TIME, OUR K-3 STUDENTS WILL GET TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT.  SEE THE ORDER FORM FOR AUTOGRAPHED BOOKS BELOW!


The National Junior Honor Society set a goal to collect 60 pounds of garbage at this Saturday's Beach Clean Up.  In a hard push to the finish, the group collected 65.28 pounds.  NJHS students worked with Reef Relief, Inc. under the supervision of the group's sponsor, Ms. Fournier.  Way to go Sailfish!
