WEEK IN REVIEW

This week, we begin our parent Coffee Clatches. These monthly gatherings are designed to help parents understand instructional strategies at Sigsbee so that we can be equal partners in growing our students.  At SCS, we look at the education of the student as a team effort . We know that this partnership leads to greater academic and social-emotional success for students.  The parent Coffee Clatches focus on topics that are timely and relevant for parents.  Topics are generated from your input throughout the year.

Wednesday's Coffee Clatch will focus on understanding your child's reading assessments. Parent conferences are around the corner and we look forward to sharing data, anecdotes and observations to help you understand your student's progress.  This meeting will give you the foundational information to help understand what will be shared at the conference. The goal is to empower you to make the most of your parent conference time and find ways to help your child outside of the classroom.

The presenters for the Coffee Clatch are Dr. Susan Lloyd, our literacy consultant from Colorado, Ms. Angela Castonguay our literacy coach for the elementary school, and Mrs. Paula Wilson our literacy coach for middle school.  Together they will give an overview of the Development Reading Assessment (DRA), STAR Assessment and iStation.

Please bring a mug and your questions. Remember that this meeting will earn service hours toward your family contract of commitment.  I hope to see you there.
Mrs. Jannes

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS: STEAM CLUB by Madi Zintsmaster

The new STEAM club, science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, is starting October 3. The STEAM meetings will take place the first and third week of each month after school from 3:10- 4:00. Mrs. Moore, one of the middle school science teachers, will be running the meetings and making sure that everyone is getting their science work done. STEAM club is a chance for middle school students to have more time to work on science, including STEM fair. For the first few weeks, the members will have fifty minutes to work on their STEM fair projects, which they will be presenting December 16. After this project, they will be moving onto the next activity of building ROVs. Students will also be able to have open discussions to figure out how to improve their STEM fair projects and how to create a rover.  For more information on the upcoming STEAM club contact Melanie Moore who will be more than happy to answer any questions. Remember- October 3 is the first meeting and anyone attending must turn in the permission slip for this club. Have a good weekend and Ms. Moore will be looking forward to seeing who shows up for STEAM club on Monday.
