If you would like to help sort/package the boxes on Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 PM, please email Mrs. Jannes (eli.jannes@sigsbee.org). This time can be used for volunteer hours. However, donations are not redeemable for hours. Thank you for your generosity.

COFFEE CLATCH: Raising Adolescent Boys
Masterminds and Wingmen Discussion
facilitated by Principal Jannes and our Military Family Life Counselors
Now: Monday, March 5th 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM
facilitated by Principal Jannes and our Military Family Life Counselors
Now: Monday, March 5th 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Please join us to discuss raising adolescent boys. We will be using the following book to guide our discussion: Masterminds and Wingmen: Helping Our Boys Cope with Schoolyard Power, Locker-Room Tests, Girlfriends, and the New Rules of the Boy World by Rosalind Wiseman.
We welcome you even if you haven't read the book.
Some of our discussion questions:
What are effective ways of handling when your boys lie to you?
How do we model appropriate technology use for our boys?
What governs your rules for electronics/gaming?
How do we reinforce the "Act-Like-A-Man Box?"
What challenges are involved in helping your son navigate the world we live in while developing standards of behavior?
How can we overturn the culture of bystanders?
How do we balance protecting our sons and having them develop resilience?
WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT JUULING
Unfortunately, Key West is not immune to the Juuling trend. Please read the linked article for information about what parents need to know about Juuling.
Signs to look for with students:
1. The scent. While the E-cig does not have an odor, the vaport can be flavored. You may get a sudden whiff of bubble gum, mint, or fruit punch.2. "Pens" that aren't pens. These items look like small hard drives or pens. 3. Copious sipping of liquids. One of the ingredients, propylene glycol, creates a constant state of dry mouth and dry skin. Often, teens who are juuling start drinking more liquids. 4. Nose bleeds. The water-holding effect of e-cig vapor can also dry out the nasal passages, leading to bloody noses. 5. Reduced consumption of caffeine. Some e-cig users develop a sensitivity to caffeine, and curb their caffeine intake. So if your teen is suddenly passing on the Red Bulls they used to chug often, vaping may be to blame.
