PURPLE PINKY DAY

Tuesday 7:45-8:30 AM

Please support us in working alongside the Rotary Clubs of Key West to help eradicate polio across the globe.

Every year, Monroe County schools assist the Rotary Clubs of Key West in eradicating polio by participating in Purple PInkie Day.  Rotary eradicated polio worldwide until it resurfaced in Afghanistan. Rotarians continue to work to keep this disease controlled across the globe.  A $1 contribution immunizes 5 children and the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation match these funds each year.

The purple pinkie represents the mark of an immunized child in other countries.  Our students will NOT be getting immunizations; they are getting a symbolic pinkie based on the tradition and their donation.  In order to preserve our instruction time, the Rotary volunteers will be present during arrival only.  Students should bring their permission slips and donations to one of the two stations that will be set up.  If students have already turned in their slips and/or money, they can retrieve them from their teachers and then come to the tables.  Parents are welcome to join in on the drive.

Purple Permission slips were sent home this past week.  Students may not have their pinkie dyed unless they have a slip.  However, anyone MAY donate $1 (or more) even without the slip.  Parents are welcome to come sign permission slips on Tuesday morning, if the original was lost.

There will be two stations set up with Rotarians trained to dye pinkies.  Only students who are donating need to come to the stations.  All donations are welcome.

THREE STATIONS beginning at 7:45 AM
Front Hut (Grades K-2 and anyone who arrives at the front of the school)
Recess Playground (Grades 3-5)
Middle School Picnic Tables (Grades 6-8)

How you can help:  Please talk to the children about this campaign and polio.  Make sure they remember their permission slips and donations.  Encourage them to wear purple on Tuesday.
