HOLIDAY DONATIONS DRIVE
Helping students in our community!

DOLLARS FOR DANIEL
Fundraised amount so far: $1420.

Meet Daniel, a first grader at Sigsbee, who has not been able to attend school this year.  Daniel was diagnosed with leukemia last spring and is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the hospital in Miami. His former teacher, Ms. McCauley, has been visiting him to provide some instruction, when he is well enough to receive it.

After Daniel was diagnosed last spring , his mother found out she was pregnant.  Pictured to the right is Daniel's new sister Nichole, a very recent addition to the family.  At the moment, Daniel's mother is staying with him and the baby, in the hospital.  Daniel's father continues to work in Key West and travel to see his family.

As you might imagine, Daniel's family is going through a lot and has many unexpected expenses related to his illness, the challenge of having him in Miami, and his mother's leave from work.  The staff at Sigsbee was able to raise $1,000 before Thanksgiving break to help the family with their expenses and will continue to connect them with organizations that will support them with related costs.

For the next three weeks, we will be running a Dollars for Daniel  drive at school, asking for monetary donations to support him and his family.  Donations can be brought into the office or given to the teachers to be placed in morning envelopes.  We just ask that you please identify the donation so that it is not confused with other collections.

Please encourage your children to get involved.  This is a great opportunity for them to donate some of their allowance or surrender one of their holiday gifts to make a difference in someone else's life.  Daniel's parents are extremely appreciative of your support.  Every dollar counts.

HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS
We will be collecting non-perishable food items by grade level so that we can assist students in need over the holidays, when schools are closed and they are unable to access food.  Please see the list below for which items should be donated.  The donations can go directly to class after which time, the Student Council will organize the items into boxes.  We would also appreciate donations of medium sized boxes with lids that are in good condition.
Thank you!
Donations due by Monday, December 16th.

PATRIOT'S PEN ESSAY WINNER

Congratulations to 6th grader Juliana Strunk for winning 4th place in the annual Patriot Pen Essay Contest.  The first round of this contest was open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Monroe County, and as our 4th place winner, Juliana's essay will now move onto the VFW District 5 level contest to compete against all middle school winners in South Florida.  Great job Juju!
