MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCES
While some people associate Memorial Day with boat trips and barbecues, it is our nation's most somber holiday and a time to pause and pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our protection. Our Key West Community does a wonderful job paying tribute to our lost soldiers. There are three ceremonies in the Lower Keys on Monday, taking place with 6' social distancing in place, should you want to have your family join.
Key West Cemetery: USS Maine Memorial 9 AM (hosted by the Navy League KW Council)
Veterans Memorial Garden Bayview Park 10 AM (hosted by the Southernmost VFW Post 2911)
Southern Keys Cemetery, Big Coppitt Key 11 AM (hosted by the American Legion Post 28 Key West)
CLOSEOUT PROCEDURES
Close out procedures will be discussed during this week's Parent Zoom Meetings. Please remember that students must return the following items during their assigned times, in order to avoid charges: borrowed technology (iPads, ChromeBooks), charging cords, library books, classroom books, guided reading books, any other school materials.
In addition, all student accounts must be paid in full. If you are experiencing a financial hardship, and are unable to pay your debt, please email Stephanie.Bartley@sigsbee.org so that we can work with you.
Our materials exchange will be in a drive through format. Once materials have been returned, students will receive a bag with their belongings and any certificates that they may have earned: Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll (grades 5-8), Superintendent Super Readers Awards. Students and parents should not exit their vehicles during the exchange (Middle School students will need to empty their lockers before or after this time- please park in the front parking lot to do so).
Students who need their devices to access summer learning opportunities, may check them out during the closeout. Devices are intended to be used only for academic reasons. A hold charge will be placed on the student account until the device is returned at the start of school, in good condition. Tech support will not be available at school this summer should the device stop working. All students withdrawing from Sigsbee must return all Sigsbee property and resolve their debt before their transfer packet can be sent to the next school.
Grades 5 and 8: Many of your teachers are excited to see you at the drive-through. We hope you will circle around on Friday!
YEARBOOK UPDATE
The publisher has informed us that their yearbook distribution is delayed. When the yearbooks do arrive, we will notify you in Remind and via email. They will be available for pickup in the library until 6/12 and in the office from 6/13-6/30. After 6/30, folks will need to contact Ms. Gladding (pat.gladding@sigsbee.org) and make arrangements. Returning families can always get their yearbooks when students return for the 2020-21 school year.
Families who are withdrawing early should fill out this form to request shipment of their yearbook for a $5 fee: Yearbook Shipment Request Form. Shipping is also available to families who prefer this method. To summarize, yearbooks can be picked up at school, shipped, or received at the beginning of the school year. If folks have any questions, they can email me.
- Yearbook Purchase Form. (this is for purchasing from our additional inventory of 20 yearbooks)
NEXT YEAR
Mrs. Jannes will be discussing information about next year's school plan at the Zoom meetings this week. While all of these plans are subject to some changes, depending on CDC restrictions and the health and safety of our community, Sigsbee Charter is forging ahead to ensure that all of our students can be accommodated in a safe and productive manner. We miss your children and will work together with you to make sure we are supporting their needs.
We encourage you to keep your children learning throughout the summer and will continue to share updates of additional opportunities as we hear about them and are able to organize them. The staff has worked hard to create a summer learning plan for ALL students. Please click on the link to access their suggestions for your child based on the grade they are exiting.
We are in the process of finishing up a survey to see if additional opportunities would be worth considering. The survey will be emailed to you directly. Please take time to complete it. More updates will be given during our parent Zoom meetings this week.
