REOPENING SCHOOL TASK FORCE
The Sigsbee Task Force continues to meet to plan for school reopening.  The Monroe County School District released its first Guidebook, incorporating advice from educators, health officials and community members.  This document will be used as a reference for Sigsbee as we develop new protocols and plans.  There will be three detailed plans:
  • Plan A:  Should the spread of the virus be minimal when school begins (students in school practicing healthy habits)
  • Plan B:  Should the spread of the virus be moderate when school begins (students in school with strict guidelines in place and modifications to class size, schedule, physical layout)
  • Plan C:  Should the spread of the virus be severe when school begins (return to home learning)
At this time, it is too early to know what phase we will open within.  However, we will have a well-articulated plan for each phase and will use CDC guidelines and advice from the Department of Education to guide us.  It is important to remember that the phases are fluid and can change at any moment given the number of Covid-19 cases in our community.  We are hoping that we will be able to open safely with guidelines in place to enforce physical distancing, regular hygiene, and keeping students out of school when sick.

If you have not done so already, I recommend finding masks that your child will be willing to wear when we are not able to physically distance.  This is a key precaution should the spread be moderate.

We are also working on a follow-up survey to solicit input from all of our stakeholders.  We will get that out to you shortly.
