Transitioning to more students on campus

We appreciate your patience as we transition back to having even more students on campus. All K-8 Sigsbee students will be participating on-campus five days/week or as full time virtual students.  The only changes that can be made at this point are moving into the full-time virtual option for second quarter; all classrooms are full. We will maintain this format through second quarter as long as our campus stays healthy.

Below please find the 2nd quarter survey, if you need to change to virtual, and "Cliff notes" for what was summarized last week.
Second Quarter Input Survey (use only if changing to virtual)

Please note that if you choose the virtual option your child will be in a virtual only class for the remainder of the 2nd quarter.

Cliff’s Notes:

  • 14 students seated in rows, mask on at all times in classrooms

  • Learning Options:  Virtual ONLY or In-person 5 days a week

  • You can move from in-person to virtual at this time.

  • On campus students are expected to participate in this format at all times. They may not be added to virtual classrooms for unexcused absences (i.e. taking trips, wanting to stay home). Teachers will provide information to students who need to participate virtual for other reasons (i.e. self-isolation due to illness)

  • Students choosing the virtual option will remain virtual until the end of the 2nd quarter.

  • Children are required to wear masks on campus.  Mask breaks will occur outside ONLY when physical distancing is possible.

Elementary Costume Parade

OCTOBER 30th 9:00 AM (K-5 STUDENTS ONLY)
We're excited to host our annual Costume Parade on Friday, with a modified format that adheres to our safety guidelines.  The Costume Parade will take place at 9:00 AM for students only, and will be livestreamed on our PTO Facebook page (@Sigsbee Charter PTO).  We will also record it so that you can view it at home when time permits.  There will be NO visitors allowed on campus.

We thank you in advance for your support in helping your child follow the rules about costumes. General guidelines are listed below.

 COSTUME GUIDELINES
  • All K-5 students should wear their costumes to school in the morning.  They will be in costume all day so please be sure they can operate independently with what they are wearing (i.e. use the bathroom, learn comfortably).
  • Costumes are not allowed to have any  dangerous objects (i.e. toy swords, toy guns, chains, skates, or spray cans) . Please leave all accessories at home.
  • Students should be able to manipulate their own costumes so that they can use the bathroom.
  • Please make sure young children in costume are able to sit and learn without distraction throughout the day.
  • Costumes should not be too scary (so that our younger students are not frightened). No blood or gore.  No masks or costumes that cover the head.
  • Costumes should be appropriate length (not too short, too tight, or see-through).
  • Shoes must be safe (no slippers or high heels)
  • Please leave the candy at home.
  • Students who do not wish to participate are welcome to watch the parade.
  • If a child does not meet the guidelines, he/she will be asked to remove the costume.  All candy will be returned.

Again, the Costume Parade will be livestreamed on our Sigsbee Charter PTO Facebook Page and recorded for viewing by parents at a convenient time.  There will NOT be a live audience.

K-4 Parent Conferences

Kindergarten through Fourth grade teachers would like to welcome all families to participate in parent teacher conferences November 2nd to November 13th.  In addition to seeing students work samples, Sigsbee has some prepared documents that parents might expect to receive in the days leading up to their appointment.   For example, K-4th grade parents should receive a Reading Continuum of Development and a Writing Continuum of Development. These documents outline the predictable stages a child works through as they build proficiency.  In Math teachers prepare documents outlining student proficiency on math standards.

During these conferences we hope to answer many of your questions including:

  • What kind of progress has my child made since last year?

  • Is my child on track to meet the end of year grade level expectations?

  • Is my child learning the social skills necessary to make and maintain friendships?

  • Is my child building the kind of emotional intelligence required to help them handle the different emotions and stressors of life?

Teachers will send out a signup sheet this week. Conferences will be held via Zoom.  Parents should log in using their child’s credentials.  Parents of students in virtual classes will be contacted by their virtual class teachers using the same process.
