IMPACT AID CARDS- LAST CHANCE

It is very important for all families to fill out the Impact Aid form through Focus so that the school may receive crucial funding, especially in a year where our fundraising is so limited.  You will need to use your parent Focus account for this.  We have been successful in getting 100% of the forms filled out in the past; we are currently at around 50%.  We can do this!

SEMESTER 2 LEARNING UPDATES

Governor DeSantis held a press conference last week to highlight a new executive order which will allow schools to continue to provide the innovative learning environment through the second semester of 2020-2021.  This means that students who would like to matriculate virtually may continue to do so without jeopardizing school funding.  In addition, brick and mortar schooling will continue five days/week as long as there are no health directives to dictate otherwise.

The second semester survey will be sent out to you after the break.  This will ensure that we have time to see if there is another holiday spike in positive cases.  You will only have to fill out the survey if you want to change your current status (on campus versus virtual).  The commitment can change at any point.  However, if we have a number of virtual students who wish to return to brick and mortar schooling, we will have to make arrangements on campus that may take a few days.

An important piece of the executive order focuses on student achievement.  Monthly progress monitoring will be sent home to you from the classrooms so that you can track the academic achievement of your student.  If your child is matriculating virtually and performing below grade level, the school will reach out to ensure that you understand your options for returning to school.  Parents of virtual students who are struggling will have to sign off on a waiver if they choose to keep the student virtual.

Overall, we've been very pleased with the teamwork, participation and effort of staff, students and parents.  We are especially thankful for how well the students are doing with the new protocols.  And, we're already halfway through this most challenging year!

NEW COVID-POSITIVE CASE AT SIGSBEE CHARTER

On Friday, we learned of another Covid-19 positive case in our middle school.  Contact tracing was completed and no other students or staff members were required to isolate based on school exposure.  However, we are not privy to information about who the student may have had contact with outside of school and additional contacts may be made based on exposure in another environment.  Please remember to keep your child home if he/she is experiencing any symptoms of illness.

DORTHE THURE MEMORIAL FUND

I am always so impressed by the tremendous generosity of our Sigsbee family, especially for those in difficult situations.  The link above (click on the title) will take you to the GoFundMe Page set up by friends and family of Dorthe Thure, mother to Sigsbee students Naia and Kristian.  As you know, Dorthe passed away unexpectedly last week.  While we cannot erase this tragic loss for her friends and family, we can help to ensure that the children have what they need now and into the future.  Please consider making a donation to this fund as a show of support and an expression of our condolences.
