OPERATION CITADEL SHIELD- Please Take Note

Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2021 is conducted by Commander, U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Command and Commander, Navy Installations Command on all Navy installations in the continental U.S. from February 1 to February 12.  The exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, other services, and agency partners.

Exercise CS-SC21 is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled exercise.  Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions within local communities and to normal base operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access.  Area residents may also see or hear security activities associated with the exercise.

Citadel Shield takes place the first week and mainly comprises security exercises.  Parents may notice emergency vehicles and personnel responding to simulated incidents.

Solid Curtain take place the second week and involves activating a heightened security posture on base.  There may be random vehicle inspections and personnel should plan extra time when attempting to access the installation.

Parents and staff are reminded to always have: their Sigsbee Charter School ID, valid driver’s license, and valid vehicle registration/insurance in case of inspection.

CELEBRATE LITERACY

We are thankful to the many leaders and readers who are wanting to celebrate literacy with us.  Each day, we are featuring a recorded read-aloud by sharing our favorite books with you on our Facebook page and on our website.  Please check out the collection we are building HERE

Also, as we move into Black History Month, check out BOOKMARKS, where celebrity readers share children's books by Black authors to spark kid-friendly conversations about empathy, equality, self-love and antiracism.

We encourage you to share these stories and their lessons with your family and friends.  They are suitable for all ages.   We will also continue to link them in the Scoop as we collect them.  Let's Celebrate Literacy.

GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY

Wednesday, February 3rd

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

-Plato

Our entire school will be dedicating

Wednesday, February 3rd, as a day of unstructured play for students, teachers and staff.

The intent of this day is to re-introduce the benefits of creative, self-directed play with NO

ELECTRONICS, no formal teaching and no testing. This will be a day of fun, free play and creativity.

There will be minimal direction from staff, restricted only to ensuring everyone is safe.

Students are encouraged to bring toys, games, building blocks, art materials, trucks, cars, boxes,

puzzles and board games. The items should not be something the child values dearly (no trading cards, including Pokemon) and must only include pieces that can be sanitized (i.e. no paper money).   The day will also include outdoor play!

Given our current Covid-19 situation, students will not be sharing games unless they are sanitized in between or the pieces can be touched by only one individual throughout the game.  Teachers are coming up with creative ways to preserve this awesome tradition at our school while ensuring that we consider safety first.

Global School Play Day will run ALL DAY in grades K-5. Middle School students will participate during their last period. During this day, we ask that you allow our staff to completely engage with students.

You can do this by reducing the number of emails sent, cutting down on interruptions to the

classroom, and holding off on phone calls. We will only interrupt the play for emergencies.

Please remember that students are never allowed to bring any toys that look like weapons to school-

no guns, knives, swords, etc.

We are looking forward to an unforgettable day!
