THANKSGIVING BASKET DONATIONS

During November, our month of giving, SCS classes will be collecting non-perishable items to create Thanksgiving baskets for struggling local families.  This food helps to sustain students and their families while school is closed over holidays.  Typically, we donate food for over 60 families through this effort, most of whom include local high school students who are trying to successfully earn their degrees while living in poverty.

Your role:  Check out the weekly BOGO ads and take your child to the grocery store to purchase items assigned to your grade level.  Send the items into school any time before November 16th. Please try to avoid items packaged in glass.

Our role:  The S.A.V.E. Promise Club will be organizing the donations, creating decorated boxes and cards, and helping to prepare your donations for delivery before Thanksgiving Break.  Thank you for your generosity!

SUPPORT SENORA ROYSE and the S.A.V.E. PROMISE INITIATIVE

On December 14, 2012, 20 children and 6 staff members lost their lives to gun violence at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. From this tragedy came Sandy Hook Promise, an organization whose main goal is ending gun violence in schools and creating student advocacy groups against violence. These groups are called S.A.V.E. Promise Clubs (Students Against Violence Everywhere). Sigsbee is proud to have a S.A.V.E. Promise Club. Our club sponsor, Ilinke Royse, is running the NYC marathon on behalf of Sandy Hook Promise and fundraising for the organization. SHP provides resources to S.A.V.E. Promise Clubs and offers programs to effectively teach youth and adults how to prevent school violence, shootings, and other harmful acts. These early-prevention measures empower everyone to help keep schools and communities safe.  Here is the link if you would like to donate: https://fundraisers.hakuapp.com/ilinke-royse

LOOK AT WHAT'S GROWING AT SIGSBEE!

Spearheaded by our Science Coach, Ms. Connell, the area behind our media center has been transformed into a beautiful garden ready to be tended.  With the help of crew members from the USCG Cutter Glen Harris, the Key West Military Affairs Committee, the KWHS National Honor Society, and members of NASKW, the garden was installed as part of a National Public Lands Day grant.

COLLECTING PLASTIC LIDS

Our art teacher, Ms. Franke, is collecting clean plastic lids in preparation for our Papio-Kinetic Parade submission.  Please send your lids directly to the art room - colorful lids are highly sought after.
