Kicking it up with kindness
Our school community is dedicated to fostering kindness and building friendships.  The beginning of the year can be difficult for students who are transitioning into a new environment.  You can help build good will by encouraging your children to reach out and meet someone new.  Need a springboard for your conversation?  Need some inspiration for how to make friends? Watch and discuss this short clip about building friendships:

PTO MEETING THIS WEEK
Please come to our first PTO meeting this week. The PTO organizes fabulous social activities for students and raises funds for resources and activities.  Meetings start with a social time (with snacks)  at 5:00 PM.  The official meeting starts at 5:30 PM.  Childcare is available.

ELEMENTARY CONFERENCES
Elementary  parent-teacher conferences are coming up soon.  If you did not have a chance to sign up for a conference during Back To School night, please contact your classroom teacher.  Fall conferences are an excellent opportunity for parents to share important information about their children.  The conference time allows teaches to describe each student's demonstrated level of performance at the start of the year; this information will be revisited at the end of third quarter, when parents can marvel at their child's performance growth.

Parents receive an hour of volunteer credit for every conference attended.  Please be sure you are included.  It is expected that all parents of students in grades K-4 will attend 2 conferences/year.  Parents of 5th-8th  grade students are welcome to request a conference at any time.  Performance information in the upper grades is typically communicated through the Focus gradebook.

BAND MEETING
Attention 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in joining the Sigsbee band program:

There will be an informational meeting for you and your parents Thursday Sept. 13 at 6:00 PM in the school's cafeteria.  We will be discussing what instruments are used in band, how you can get one, and any other questions you may have.  After school practices for band will be from 3:00 - 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will begin on Sept. 25.  If there is interest, we may add other days later.  If you cannot attend the meeting and would like the information, please email me for the details:  harley.hendricks@sigsbee.org

Thank you!
